well, it's all going according to plan, I suppose.

even if she gives up, now, it's kept her interest for almost five months. dragons only know what horror I've spared the world in that expansively long time of a bored Justine.

... and it's made her happy, having a little mystery underfoot. which is ... nice. nicer than I ever anticipate, really. it's a little frightening, how much her moods have started to affect me ...

alright, Justine.

it appears that no one ever solved your little riddle, so I suppose it is once again my duty to play along on their behalf.

huh.

well, Justine, I've recevied another "gift." I might as well not bother doing anything but inviting you over to inspect it, I suppose, because that's what you'll do, regardless.

back to business, then.

I am so bad at this.

[filter: public]

well, I haven't heard from my nighttime visitor for a few days. I wonder if whatever or whoever it was eventually decided that it wasn't worth it.

who can say, really? I just hope it stops for good.

so you can stop trying to come up with plans, Justine, unless you really think it's trying to lull us into a false sense of security.

I can't tell if this is going well, or if she's figured out exactly what I'm doing and is just playing with me.

hm, either way, she's entertained.

this would be easier if I'd ever had a head for mysteries ...

[filter: Justine]

I'm going shopping today. what do you want?

[the writing is a messy scrawl]

dragons, what the hell was that?

[there is a long pause before any more writing appears. the rest is much neater than before, but still seems a little jilted]

that was louder than any of the noises I've heard before. it was like a ... a clattering. I went out to see who or what it was, but as usual, nothing at all.

... perhaps I should give the area a more thorough search tomorrow morning. this has gone on far enough.

I apologize if I've seemed ... especially jumpy of late. it's nothing, really. I just haven't been sleeping especially well.

well, this is either my best or worst idea ever.

we'll see, I suppose.

[filter: public]

hm.

I have a bit of a question for the journals. let's say that you thought something suspicious may be happening, but you weren't sure whether or not it was just paranoia. how would you go about deciding what to do about it?

obviously, doing something drastic would be foolish, when it could easily just be your imagination. hm.

that could have been worse, I'll say that much. though I'm not sure this place is actually any cleaner than it was before.

I think this definitely moves my centre of morality quite a few steps in the wrong direction.

destroying the temple was bad enough, but I was drunk and it was so spur of the moment. this is so utterly different. we framed that man and now, dragons only know what he'll face to pay for Justine's crime. no matter how I tell myself that I owed it to her, that I had no choice, I'm guilty.

I'm not the same man I was when I left lucre. nowhere near.

why doesn't it matter to me more?

I think the desert might have baked all the caring right out of me.

only

[filter: Justine]

well.

thank Dragons for that. I suppose it's over, then? crisis averted?

[filter: Tea]

you must be feeling very foolish now, and possibly a little frightened. travelling with someone so dangerous, without a clue.

if you'd like to talk about it, I am a priest.

so.

I think I know where he's staying, though that's only a "probably," and I haven't the first idea how to start assembling a plan to get into his things. is anyone actually stupid enough to just five me a key and allow me to just walk into his room stick a burned up lamp handle in his pack?

why did I think this was a good idea? I'm a priest, not a burglar.

... dragons.

innocent questions. she could be just experimenting with the climate of the city. trying to see the depth of the faith of her followers. perhaps this is just the first of many routine visits.

or perhaps ... it's more directed than that.

[filter: Justine]

are you feeling up for another potentially serious conversation?

I don't suppose you'll say anything if I do this?
